This exhibition represents the finest contemporary art of the country of Myanmar, which has skyrocketed into the international limelight since 2012, when its 40-year military regime stepped down from power. “I am honored to have the opportunity to expose the talent, the authenticity and the stories of my homeland after four decades of distance and opacity between Myanmar and the rest of the world.  ‘Myanmar Art Crossing’ represents the crossing of barriers of time, distance and cultures,” remarked Ms. Tin Nyo.

“Myanmar Art Crossing”, Yone Arts Booth #1117, will showcase a diverse group of talented artists and their work that represent the thriving contemporary art scene of Myanmar.  They include Aung Htoo, Brang Li, Kaung Su, Khin Zaw Latt, Mor Mor, Myint San Myint, Nay Yay Than, Ohn Ohn, Sandar Khine, Soe Naing and Zwe Yan Naing.

Featured are large scale nudes by female artist Sandar Khine, known for her Nude with Camera series,  a series of paintings of plus-sized nude women staring back at the viewer through the lens of a Canon camera.  Artist Ohn Ohn, another female painter, who recently exhibited at the Jacaranda Music event in Culver City, is known for her luminous, layered oil paintings that combine Buddhist imagery with her own dream life.  Also included are paintings by artist Soe Naing, Myanmar’s most respected abstract expressionist, who performed “Intermission on Stage” last January in Singapore to an audience of thousands, by removing black paint from within a blackened railroad car sized box, providing a glimpse of his 10,000 diary sketches.  The work of artist Myint San Myint using Myanmar script and imagery of children will also be on view, alongside the work of prison artist Htein Lin.  Also exhibiting for the first time in the United States is artist Kaung Su, who creates multi-media work on the theme of environmental devastation.

The LA Art Show taking place from January 15 – 18, 2015 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall 1201 Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
