THREE WEEKS IN JANUARY
Three Weeks In January is a new public performance on violence against women by Suzanne Lacy, re-inventing her 1977 performance, Three Weeks in May. An installation of documentation and ephemera from the original performance is curated by Emi Fontana in collaboration with John Tain.

The Myths of Rape (1977/2012) A special LA ART SHOW opening night performance by Elana Mann and Audrey Chan, working with Leslie Labowitz- Starus and Lacy, re-creates a 1977 performance by Labowitz-Starus, originally performed as part of Three Weeks in May. Performers re-enact compelling tableaux, typical of 1970s street demonstrations, exploring past and current forms of activism.

Two panels feature conversations on feminist activist art, past and present, and the social turn in contemporary art practice. Three Weeks in January will be presented by LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) as part of Pacific Standard Time. Please see SYMPOSIA SERIES for additional details on these panels.
