Los Angeles Arts Month
The City of Los Angeles proclaims January as Los Angeles Arts Month which encourages residents and visitors to seek out cultural experiences throughout the month of January: from visiting a local gallery or museum; enjoying a theatrical, dance, or musical performance; or getting a taste of a multi-cultural festival. Through community outreach, local promotional ticket giveaways, and a viral word-of-mouth campaign, LA Arts Month encourages Angelenos to enjoy the best art the world has to offer, without leaving the city.
This year, LA Arts Month has expanded to include participation by Los Angeles County and area museums, which will offer free admission to visitors the last weekend in January. Anchored by the prestige of the LA Art Show, 'Los Angeles Arts Month' will unite art exhibits and special events throughout the city, resulting in a month long celebration of the arts during January.
This year's LA Arts Month sets the stage for Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945-1980, a region-wide collaboration of more than 60 arts institutions coming together for six months in 2011 to tell the story of the birth of the Los Angeles arts scene. The second launch will coincide with the weekend of the LA Art Show. Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945-1980 is an initiative of the J. Paul Getty Trust. The presenting sponsor is Bank of America.
Visit the Los Angeles Arts Month website for more recommendations on a year's art-related activities abounding about the city. Organizers are urging arts groups to make sure to post their events, and to tweet about special events and offers using #laartsmonth.
On Thursday, January 20th, Secretary Wayne Clough will share his vision for the Smithsonian and their new initiatives with Town Hall Los Angeles at a 12pm Luncheon at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Register here for a this Luncheon.
