2 PM - The Worlds of Hunt Slonem Lecture & Book Signing
Recalling the storied lives of 19th century naturalists and romantics, Hunt Slonem depicts both natural subjects—including birds, rabbits, and butterflies—and portraits—such as saints,
Rudolf Valentino, Billie Holiday, and Abraham Lincoln—in his epically colorful canvases. Using multiplicity as a governing principle, Slonem has created a body of work as inimitable—and wildly colorful—as it is recognizable. Slonem will discuss the myriad influences and
overarching themes of his career, followed by a signing of the new monograph, The Worlds of Hunt Slonem.
4 PM - FABRIK MAGAZINE | The Inter-Influence
of Art and Design
This panel will discuss the relationship of fine art and utilitarian design in contemporary society. Art and design are two fields of creative endeavor that parallel and closely resemble each other. Art and design are two fields of creative endeavor that parallel and closely resemble each other. But for all that, they interact and interface less than one might suspect - or one might prefer. What kind of place does art have in design? What kind of place does utilitarian design - indeed, utilitarian thinking - have in fine art? Does their similarity actually keep them apart? Are the disciplines more disparate from one another than we think? Or are they in fact closer? Panelists include: Linda Allen, Interior Designer; Rex Bruce, Director, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA); Brad Howe, Artist; Stefan Lawrence, Designer and Founder of Twentieth; and Leonardo Ledesma, Art Consultant. Moderated by: Peter Frank, Art Critic and Curator.
